Pebble: Not Your Ordinary Steel Watch

By Ariane Gabrielle Lim, Daphne Ashley Sze, Samantha Jayne Ty

A smartwatch is not a standalone product; rather it is a companion of a mobile phone that allows people to multitask with both hands freely being in the cyber realm, at the same time, the real world. An average smartwatch would notify the receipt and enable the viewing of messages, incoming calls, and emails through a small screen.  It can also run few minor mobile applications such as calculator, translator, and game playing.  Pebble, on the other hand, runs critical apps and notifications on people’s wrist, giving people immediate access to what is important. The brand is currently the crowd favorite who single-handedly ignited the smartwatch market frenzy that is beginning to surge.

Pebble Steel, the latest version, is a premium, elegantly designed smartwatch connected to a mobile phone via bluetooth making it easy to load and manage apps also improving its notification handling for people.  It is crafted with a more sophisticated stainless steel case and Corning Gorilla Glass shipped with leather and metal watchband, with a new tricolor status LED.  Its elegant design is accompanied by its waterproof features that can withstand 5 ATM, approximately 165 feet deep under water before breaking. The smartwatch can operate up to eight Pebble apps and watchfaces from the Pebble store, which currently has 1000+ apps and a separate page for watchfaces, all fully compatible to its smartwatches.  A person can manage and exchange these apps with the Pebble Locker on its mobile phone.  Moreover, the smartwatch is compatible with both IOS and Android interface running five to seven days without charging while always on display.

Other than its basic features of receiving notifications from message, emails, and calls, Pebble has a music interface wherein the watch can act as a controller skipping through tracks, switching songs, pause and play music.  This comes in handy when jogging around without having the need to hold the mobile phone.  Pebble also provides sleep tracking and pedometer encouraging a healthier lifestyle for busy people.

In business, specifically e-commerce, a smartwatch can come in handy as it notifies the owner of a current sale, which leads to a faster customer response without staring at the computer or phone for the whole time.  It allows business people to be in the real world often without worrying of missing a contact from an important person whether it be a customer, a supplier, or a partner.  Moreover, most business people are on their smartphones 24/7 keeping eye on news and stock trading.  The smartwatch can constantly notify them of different news and stocks through its apps.  Pebble is also partnered with ESPN in an app that offers scores of various sports wherein business people who are avid sport fans can check through their watch in a business meeting or events. Pebble store offers apps specifically for e-commerce or business purpose customized to own fit which is made easier with a notification to the smartwatch.

Concisely, Pebble Steel is a sophisticated smartwatch with many features that suites a businessman.  It rids people of the 24/7 cyber realm, rather alerts people when there is an occurrence in the realm that interests them.  It is like being in two worlds at the same time – cyber world and the real world.
