Phonebloks is a new
innovative kind of idea for a phone that wants to replace the style of modern
phones which do not last long because of obsolete or broken parts. It also
wishes to lessen industrial waste cause by old phones being thrown away and
replaced. Phonebloks utilizes a new technology where each component of a phone
is put into a lego like block and is attachable to the rear part of the phone
where it can be used. A good selling point of this phone is every part is fully
replaceable without having to replace the phone as a whole. It is also possible
to fully customize where you want to put your detachable parts and you can even
choose how big for a more functional part or how small for more space.
Advantages over other products
It is a phone that is fully upgradeable and is able to be
replaced without having to lose the whole phone. It is a more environmentally
friendly phone because the phone does not need to be thrown away to be
upgraded. You can customize to suit your interests by adjusting the dimensions
of the block to make said block more functional. Some developers have shown
interest in the product and are selling their components in blocks that can be
installed into the phone.
Recommendations
Create many prototype phones since the motherboard will most
likely be very clustered with all the components being jumbled around which may
make the phone very slow even with an upgraded memory block.. Find a way to
compete with Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google play. Find a way to make the
phone look more sleek and fashionable to compete with the new iPhones and
Android phones.
Conclusion
The concept and idea is amazing and innovative but, it does not
seem very plausible in our current age of technology. If ever this becomes a
possibility, we will be able to have a phone more suited to what we want not
only with the size of blocks but, also with different colors and accessories
which can be etched into the phone. If done properly with a good team it may
even surpass every other phone and revolutionize the whole smartphone industry.
How Information System can be utilized
They can plan out the layout of the system that connects to the
motherboard and create a system that opens ports for every component which will
close when a component with a single purpose (ex. wifi) comes in. They can
layout the various points which may have the highest possibility of being
executed the fastest and most efficiently then lay out where they believe the
consumers will plus their products in. With their plan they can provide samples
to the consumers on which areas are recommended for a specific component. If
done perfectly, they will have an easier time creating the phone that they
envision.
